When was the last time you could discuss your thoughts openly and honestly with others? Have you ever questioned society and it's assumptions or your own? Do you like to have a good, safe discussion without fear of being attacked for having an opinion that is different? This is Socrates Café.
Here, we are a group of individuals who like to talk. We come from all walks of life, all nationalities, all religions, all political views, both genders. We come from North, East, South and West. We get together and discuss what is on our minds, from something on the news that day to the age old questions of "What is ...?"

10:00am - 3:00pm
Description:
In a spirit of offering an intimate, personalized and themed experience, Vendor Connect is promoting a series of “boutique” style career fairs. Event Coordinator, Sybil Harvey Benard says, “Our events usually have 20 or fewer employers that have specific jobs to fill. We focus our efforts in order to attract the brightest candidates, allowing employers to meet prospective job seekers on a one-to-one basis with the specialized skills they are looking for. We believe this will attract a high percentage of more experienced, college degreed and degree-seeking professionals whose work experience and education combine to make them very marketable to the employers.”
Our 2010 kickoff job fair will be held January 5, 2010 at Hotel Indigo in the Galleria area (behind Nordstrom's). Free parking will be provided. This event is free and open to the public. Come dressed for success.
We are currently seeking sponsors and exhibitor companies to participate. If you would like further information, please visit: www.thevendorconnect.com or call 713.775.4010. Early bird registration ends December 18, 2009.

-Increased talks by authors and film directors
-Increased art exhibits and music performances
-Community economic education programs
-Valuable meeting space for non-profit organizations
Your support will keep these goals alive.
Items to be raffled include:
-A Trip to New Mexico
-Roger Wood's book "Texas Zydeco"
-Artery Media Project DVDs
-And more
The program will feature presentations about the valuable work that is done by Houston Institute for Culture and Kids Write to Know. There will be a film screening of "Milagro Beanfield War". Based on the novel by John Nichols, "Milagro Beanfield War" tells the true story of a vanishing way of life, of the willful and coercive displacement of the traditional people by aggressive, profit-driven outsiders.
The raffle features a trip to New Mexico to attend the centuries-old San Lorenzo Feast Day activities, the Gallup Inter-tribal Ceremonial, Santa Fe museums, archaeological sites, and more. The trip takes place August 7-15, 2010. More information will be provided. Books and DVDs will also be raffled.
The suggested donation to attend the benefit program and film screening is $5-10. Raffle tickets will cost $10. A person may buy multiple tickets.
This is a very important benefit. Proceeds will ensure Houston Institute for Culture and Kids Write to Know can offer very needed programs in the face of a struggling economy. Please invite friends to come with you.

Houston Institute for Culture is hosting a donation drive for Haiti Counts.
