19th Century Texas Black Legislators Monument Unveiling
Description:
As Project Director of the Nineteenth Century Texas Black Legislators Monument Project, I am excited and honoured to announce our monument unveiling ceremony commemorating the Nineteenth Century Texas African American Legislators and Constitutional Convention Delegates, to be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Texas State Cemetery, Austin, Texas.

This unveiling will mark the state cemetery’s first monument to commemorate Texas’ first black State Legislators and is believed to be the first Texas monument ever to pay tribute to these remarkable men collectively.

This monument will benefit Texas and the country with an additional resource tool where students and citizens alike can visit and learn more information about these former Texas legislators, their life and their legislative service to the state of Texas.

Please visit the web link provided by the Texas State Library & Archives Commission http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/exhibits/forever/index.html which includes biographies of these men and photograph composites during their tenure in the Texas legislature.
