6:00pm - 8:30pm
Please join us for a film and a raffle to benefit Houston Institute for Culture and Kids Write to Know. The benefit will support important youth programs offered by the organizations and maintain the Houston Institute for Culture gallery and meeting space for much needed community activities.
Our goals for increasing activities in this space include:
-Increased youth events, workshops and classes (including writing, art, environment and nutrition for youth and families)
-Increased talks by authors and film directors
-Increased art exhibits and music performances
-Community economic education programs
-Valuable meeting space for non-profit organizations
Your support will keep these goals alive.
Items to be raffled include:
-A Trip to New Mexico
-Roger Wood's book "Texas Zydeco"
-Artery Media Project DVDs
-And more
The program will feature presentations about the valuable work that is done by Houston Institute for Culture and Kids Write to Know. There will be a film screening of "Milagro Beanfield War". Based on the novel by John Nichols, "Milagro Beanfield War" tells the true story of a vanishing way of life, of the willful and coercive displacement of the traditional people by aggressive, profit-driven outsiders.
The raffle features a trip to New Mexico to attend the centuries-old San Lorenzo Feast Day activities, the Gallup Inter-tribal Ceremonial, Santa Fe museums, archaeological sites, and more. The trip takes place August 7-15, 2010. More information will be provided. Books and DVDs will also be raffled.
The suggested donation to attend the benefit program and film screening is $5-10. Raffle tickets will cost $10. A person may buy multiple tickets.
This is a very important benefit. Proceeds will ensure Houston Institute for Culture and Kids Write to Know can offer very needed programs in the face of a struggling economy. Please invite friends to come with you.
